Beck says US has ‘wandered in darkness’ too long
WASHINGTON — From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, broadcaster Glenn Beck has told a crowd of tens of thousands of people gathering on the National Mall that their country has “wandered in darkness” for too long.
He says it’s now time to concentrate on the good things about the United States.
As the conservative Fox News commentator and talk show host gazed out at his audience Saturday, he said he was humbled.
He said “something beyond imagination is happening.” And he began his rally on a religious theme, saying that “America today begins to turn back to God.”
Some civil rights leaders are staging a rival rally Saturday in Washington on what is the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
