‘Booty call’ phenomenon for on-demand-sex - the latest lifestyle trend

WASHINGTON - It’s everywhere - the latest and ever-growing trend of ‘booty call’ - two people meet up after a party or a date, but just for sex.

“A lot of girls see the booty call as a no-pressure way to have fun with someone you may be interested in,” ABC News quoted Andrea, a future horticulturist at the San Luis Obispo campus.

“I guess it was my way of saying I had a good time and I’d like to see him again. The call comes late at night and it’s usually on the weekend. Your booty call is usually someone you know,” she added.

South Alabama psychologist Peter K. Jonason said that a booty call is a “compromise” relationship. For men, there’s a “low-cost sexual component,” and for women there’s the “possibility of further commitment.”

So it’s definitely not a relationship, but nor is it a one-night stand. Just a placeholder until something better comes along, he added.

And it’s equally popular with both sexes.

“Women want this-no one is twisting their arms,” he said. “The booty call is much less socially stigmatizing and protects women from the negative side effects of engaging in one-night stands.”

But even being the ‘casual’ phenomena it is considered to be, a booty call can sometimes turn into something more, and ending up in disappointment.

“A friend of mine called me to hook up for a night and after that, she wouldn’t speak to me for months,” said William, a 20-year-old Arizona State University.

“Ultimately, it makes you look and feel like a scum bag.”

However, the booty call becomes less popular with age possibly for the want of a deeper relationship, according to Pepper Schwartz, a University of Washington sociologist and the chief relationship expert at Perfect Match.com.

But Schwartz does believe that serious research on sexual behaviours like the booty call is important.

“We care about what molds and influences the hearts and minds of our young people. We also worry from a public health perspective about the sex habits of all ages. We need knowledge to make the right recommendations,” she said. (ANI)
