R S PURA - Authorities in border region of Jammu and Kashmir’s R S Pura district have imposed night curfew to prevent movement of extremists and curb rampant smuggling from Pakistan side of the border.

The authorities have imposed night curfew for two months to prevent movement of anti-national elements.

In an order, the district magistrate has restricted the movement of any person or persons from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“Government has imposed the curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day. I have met several heads of villages in the vicinity, and have told them to obey the orders with immediate effect,” said Kasturi Lal, Incharge of the Border Police Post in R S Pura.

The curfew has brought life to a complete standstill in the region, causing significant losses to local businesses and agriculturalists.

“They cut off the electricity during the daytime and during the evening we are unable to move due to the curfew. There are no sources of water here except this stream of water, and if we are not allowed to come to the field and operate the pump at night, all our crops would be damaged,” said Joginder Singh, a local farmer.
