CARDIFF, UNITED KINGDOM (GaeaTimes.com)- A research that was conducted by professors of University of Wales Institute, Cardiff recently has dispelled the ‘cougar‘ trend calling it a myth. The findings of the research came to the limelight after it was published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior on Wednesday and it categorized the ‘cougar’ phenomenon as a myth in the life of common people although cougar couples such as Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were said to be confined only among the celebrities.

In the study, as many as 22,000 people of both sexes were taken into consideration and they were evaluated on the basis of their age preferences using online dating portals in 14 countries across the world as well as two religious groups. While divulging the details of the findings of the study, Dr Michael Dunn who is associated with the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and is the lead author of the study stated that although the usual assumption is that with the financial independence of women, they do not need to look out for wealthy, older men for financial security, the results of the study pointed otherwise. The findings of the study clearly indicated that women irrespective of age and culture targeted men either their age or younger which highlighted the nonexistence of the ‘cougar’ phenomenon.

Dr Michael Dunn also revealed that among males, the traditional trend of being with a younger female was found to be prevalent. It was deciphered that the ‘cougar‘ trend is a myth as younger men looked forward to being with a women their age or younger while older men wanted to be with females much younger than them.
