Tharoor-Pushkar tie knot in Kerala

PALAKKAD - Former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor on Sunday tied nuptial knots with his friend Sunanda Pushkar in a traditional Malayali wedding at his ancestral house in Palakkad.

Tharoor, tied the ‘thali’, symbolising the marital bond as per the Hindu custom, amid accompaniment of percussion at the auspicious moment shortly before 8.30 a.m. hile Throor was clad in traditional Malayali atire of kurta and mundu, Sunanda, turned up with jerried off-white ‘veshti-mundu set’.

Before the wedding ceremony, the couple sought the blessings of gods and elders of the family.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar was the only senior politician present at the marriage.

The Tharoor-Sunanda relationship surfaced during the bid for the Kochi Indian Premier League (IPL) team, which turned into a major controversy forcing Tharoor to step down as Minister of State for External Affairs. (ANI)
