SYDNEY - A Muslim man is suing Australian telecommunications company Telstra for racial discrimination, claiming that an official had allegedly called him a “f—ing terrorist”.

Ali Iskafi alleges that his “extremely intoxicated” manager at the company had made the comments towards him and another Muslim colleague at a sales conference function in Melbourne in July 2009.

The 34-year-old’s lawyer, Mohammed Masri, told the Federal Magistrates Court that the matter involved “harassment in the workplace while my client was an employee of Telstra”.

“There was some racial discrimination and abuse also made towards the applicant, which will form the basis of his complaint,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Masri, as saying.

Iskafi, who worked at Telstra as a business sales consultant, is now unemployed and part of his case involves a claim for loss of income.

According to reports, his former work colleague will not join the claim, but will give evidence about the alleged incident.

The case has been adjourned until October. (ANI)
