Karachi police nabs two militants behind MQM leader’s murder

LONDON - The Karachi police has arrested two men in connection with the MQM leader Raza Haider’s assassination, who was gunned down inside a mosque here earlier this month.

Haider’s broad day light murder had led to violence across the Sindh province resulting in the death of 80 people in a week long protest.

The two suspects, who are said to have admitted being members of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, were nabbed during a raid on Tuesday, Sindh Inspector General Salahuddin Babar Khattak said.

Police officials released a video-taped confession of the two men , who confessed their involvement in 11 murders in Karachi since January 2010, including that of Haider.

“We followed him (Haider) and his guard into the mosque and then opened fire on them,” BBC quoted one of the accused, as saying in the video.

Both suspects were in jail for terror offences and were released in 2008. (ANI)
