Vonnegut memorial library to open in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Three years after Kurt Vonnegut’s death, a new library toasting the “Slaughterhouse Five” author’s life is getting ready for a November opening in Indianapolis.

Part library and part museum, the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library in Vonnegut’s hometown will chronicle his life and his long literary career.

Museum founder Julia Whitehead says it will include a replica of his writing studio, an art gallery featuring Vonnegut’s distinctive line drawings and a gift shop.

The library’s collection will include Vonnegut’s World War II medals and signed first editions of works published before his death in 2007 at age 84.

Vonnegut’s eldest daughter is also donating a box of rejection letters her father received during his long struggle before he enjoyed literary success.
