Getting steamy on season 2 of CBS’ ‘The Good Wife’

NEW YORK — Things will be getting a little steamy on the new season of “The Good Wife.”

Before giving a tour of the Brooklyn set for CBS’ hit drama on Monday, CBS showed reporters clips of a scene for the second season debut that depicted the estranged couple played by Julianna Margulies and Chris Noth getting intimate.

Noth plays disgraced Chicago politician Peter Florrick, who gets turned on by seeing his wife Alicia work forcefully as a lawyer in the courtroom for the first time. He comes on to her in the bathroom of their apartment that night and she resists. But before the scene fades out, it’s clear that the couple engage in oral sex.

“There’s definitely a new playing field,” Margulies told reporters.

Margulies said it becomes clear in the characters’ relationship that they work the same way and it’s a turn-on for both of them.

It’s not clear how much of the scene will be shown during the Sept. 28 premiere. The clip still hasn’t gone through the CBS standards department, network spokeswoman Lana Kim said.

The show, itself inspired by real-life episodes of philandering politicians and their wives, will continue to be inspired by the headlines this season. The BP oil spill becomes part of one story, Margulies said.

A character depicting Alicia Florrick’s gay brother, who has a long-running animosity toward Peter, will be featured this season. The character’s introduction shows how Alicia comes from a divorced household and illustrates why keeping a family together is so important to her, Margulies said.
