LONDON - A survey has revealed that one in five British children have never climbed a tree or visited a farm.

The survey also found that two out of five have never been camping and many are ignorant of basic countryside facts such as where acorns come from and which species of animals occur.

One in ten believes cows hibernate in winter and half think cod are freshwater fish.

The poll of 2,000 kids aged eight to 12 highlights how a generation is growing up out of touch with life outside cities.

Three-quarters watch telly more often than they play outside and two out of three sit indoors playing video games every day.

“Children are far removed from nature and its inspiration,” the Sun quoted Adrian Wills, head of the survey, which was run for documentary TV channel Eden, as saying. (ANI)
