Bangladesh hands over Indian farmer to BSF

SHILLONG - The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Monday handed over an Indian farmer, who was charged with entering Bangladesh illegally, to India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Tamabil immigration check post in Meghalaya.
“The BDR has handed over (the farmer) Demi Dhar to us this evening and subsequently we handed him to the state police,” BSF spokesman Ravi Gandhi told IANS.
A court in Bangladesh Aug 3 remanded Dhar in judicial custody on charges of entering the country illegally last month. The BSF has rubbished the charges, contending Bangladeshi nationals abducted him from Rongkhum, a disputed area along the international border in Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills district.
Rongkhum is 25 km east of Pyrdiwah village, which was occupied for several days in 2001 by the BDR - which claimed it to be a part of Bangladesh - before it retreated.
