MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The heritage wing of the iconic Taj Hotels in Mumbai, which witnessed widespread carnage in the terrorist attacks of 2008, is all set to make a comeback on Sunday when it will be re-opened once again. The heritage wing of the luxury hotel would be welcoming the guests from this weekend and the occasion would indeed be all the more special as Sunday marks the 64th Independence Day of the nation.

The news that the Taj Hotels would be re-opened for guests on Independence Day was confirmed at a special event that was held in the sea-facing luxury hotel on Thursday which heralded a new beginning for it as for the first time after the 2008 terrorist attacks, the hotel would return to its normal business. During the event as Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata group parent company which owns the luxury hotel, posed with the employees on the grand cantilever stairway, the other staff members threw rose petals and cheered boisterously. While announcing the re-opening of Taj Hotels after undergoing a Rs. 200 crore makeover, a visibly delighted Ratan Tata said that the grand Old Lady would open its doors to the guests with the same splendor and glory of the past 100 years.

The re-opening of the luxury hotels on Independence Day comes two years after it suffered extensive damage in the siege that was laid by Pakistani militants across many landmarks of Mumbai. The attack on Taj Hotels was a part of a coordinated carnage that was carried out by as many as 10 gunmen in the commercial capital of India in which around 166 people lost their lives while more than 300 were wounded.
