ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister Babar Awan has slammed former premier Nawaz Sharif for targeting President Asif Ali Zardari and the federal government during his visits to the flood affected areas in the country rather than focussing on the “agonies” of the people, which is creating a big hurdle in the way of international aid and financial assistance by international community for victims.

The Dawn News quoted Awan as saying that: “Though international community has pledged 100 million dollars for flood victims and more is expected, but the propaganda campaign launched by Mian Mohammad Sharif is a big hurdle in more financial help,”

“Nawaz Sharif, during his visit to affected areas, were talking less about agonies and suffering of affected people and more against President Asif Ali Zardari and the federal government. He should realise that it is not an ordinary calamity, it is greater than all the tragedies occurred in a centaury on the earth,” he added.

According to Pakistan’s meteorological office, it expected that rains would continue in the north till Sunday, and monsoon season would not end for several more weeks.

More than 1,600 people have been confirmed dead since flooding began in Pakistan more than two weeks ago, and authorities fear the death toll could be far higher. Millions have fled their homes, many of them crowding into hastily-erected camps. (ANI)
