India to induct 32 warships in 10 years

KOLKATA - India will induct 32 more warships, including 27 being built indigenously, to its naval fleet in the next 10 years, one of the seniormost Indian Navy officers said Wednesday.
Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Anup Singh said the warships “to be inducted in the service within a decade” include corvettes, frigates and destroyers.
“Out of the 32 ships, three are being built in Russia and two in Italy. The remaining 27 are being built in the country,” Singh said, speaking at a seminar here.
The seminar, “Strategic perspective on Procurement management and Indigenous Needs of the Navy - Opportunities for Value Creation by Industry in Eastern region” was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
The navy officer said at present five Kilo-class, or Sindhughosh, submarines and a Foxtrot submarine were deployed in the eastern coast.
On the western coast, he said, the navy had deployed five Sindhughosh and four German KSS submarines.
