GUJRANWALA - The Pakistan Army has virtually sealed the Rahwali Cantonment here amid reports of the Taliban planning an attack inside the garrison city.

Rahwali Cantt has been sealed for a week now and there is no indication when this ban will be lifted, causing anxiety for visitors to the area.

The News quoted the Inter-Services Public Relations, as saying that it was a routine security measure and avoided going into details.

According to the daily, seven of the nine entry points have been closed for an indefinite period. The remaining two entrances are open, but visitors have to undergo security checks.

Special cantonment cards have been given to people to facilitate entry into the heavily guarded area.

“We have been told not to come because the army has intercepted communication of militants suggesting a devastating attack in the Cantt,” said Imran, an electrician who runs a shop in the garrison city.

According to reports, the militants have taken shelter in the rural area and are likely to enter from that side.

The garrison has the residence of the corps commander who also controls Sialkot Cantt and Kharian Cantt.

Former DG ISI, Lt Gen Nadeem Taj, is presently corps commander there. (ANI)
