GURGAON - A mock drill was conducted at DT mega mall in this satellite town of the national capital Tuesday to check security arrangements ahead of Independence Day, officials said.

“More mock drills will be organised and before the onset of the Commonwealth Games we can see the level of preparedness. Currently, the city is on alert due to Independence Day,” a senior police officer said.

At around 2 p.m. a mock call was made about a bomb having been planted in the mall. Seconds later, several police personnel thronged the mall and got it vacated.

“We basically wanted to check the response of private security agencies. Few shortcomings have been noticed and we will write to the authorities concerned,” he added.

Officials said an emergency response plan will be prepared with the help of officers of various departments and representatives from the public.

“The mock drills will help in knowing the resources and equipments available in the district. Before the Commonwealth Games we have planned several such drills at crowded places and near the Games venue,” the officer said.

The shooting competitions of the Games are scheduled to be held in October at the shooting range of the Kadarpur Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Gurgaon.

The police will keep vigil on the security arrangements in all the shopping malls, markets, hotels, guest houses, metro stations and other important places.
