Plane returns to Philly airport after tire bursts
PHILADELPHIA — A Miami-bound plane was forced to return to Philadelphia International Airport after a tire burst during takeoff.
Airport officials said US Airways flight 1651 ruptured a tire around 1 p.m. Friday.
US Airways spokesman Morgan Durrant said the flight landed about 2:30 p.m., after circling to burn fuel to get the airplane down to a better landing weight.
The Boeing 737 landed safely with 140 passengers and crew on board. No one was hurt.
Passengers were rebooked on later flights to Miami, or were offered accommodation on flights to Ft. Lauderdale.
