Floods in Gujarat claims one life

AJOTHA - One person died in Ajotha village in Gujarat’s Junagadh district after floods caused by heavy rains inundated the area.

A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is in the village and was carrying out a search operation on Thursday to find the body of Arjun.

B K Vishwas, Commander of the NDRF team said that they had come with all equipment to carry out the rescue operation, but were unsuccessful.

“We had been searching since morning with our entire team, boats, OBM (Oriental Boat Mission), life jackets and deep diver kits. The river is very deep and the flow is strong and the area is huge. Our deep divers found the dead body of Arjun, at around 1:15 in the Thursday afternoon,” said Vishwas.

Lawmaker Bhagabhai Barot, said the rescue operation could not take place at night.

“The work could not be done at night, so, they have been here since 6 a.m. in the morning and they have been working hard. We are also here; the village head and the people are also here. If they want any help so we are also ready,” said Barot. By Hanif Khokhar (ANI)
