LONDON - English footballer David Beckham, in a generous gesture, sent a get-well message to a soldier who lost both his legs in a Taliban blast.

The 35-year-old sports star sent the message to Private Ryan Hewitt, whom he had met during his morale-boosting trip to Afghanistan in May.yan was on patrol in Sangin when he and his mates were ambushed.

As they ran for cover, 18-year-old Ryan stepped on an IED mine.

He heard a click, and then a beep before it exploded.

Ryan, of 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment, had his legs amputated by medics on the battlefield.

“I was sad to hear of Ryan’s injuries. I was honoured to meet him in Afghanistan. He is an incredibly brave person and I want to wish him well in his recovery,” the Sun quoted Beckham as saying. (ANI)
