LOHARDAGA - Maoists burnt three trucks carrying bauxite mineral on Wednesday in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga District during the ongoing five-state-shutdown.

“The supporters of the MCC (Maoist Communist Centre of India) burnt the trucks carrying bauxite mineral, which were plying on roads on the day when shutdown is called. They said, ‘Why do you drive on the day of shutdown?’ and burnt the trucks. There was dense forest, but they saw the trucks and burnt them. The investigations and search is on,” said D. K. Verma, the Station House Officer of Jobang police station.

Maoists called for the shutdown on Tuesday in five eastern and central provinces - Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh - to protest the killing of their leader, Sidhu Soren, by the security forces.

“They said, ‘Why are you driving vehicles when there is a shutdown since yesterday?’ They said that and slapped me two-three times, and told me to run off. I don’t know who they were. They wore black dresses and were about 25 to 30,” said Surendra Singh, a truck driver. (ANI)
