Cabin smell diverts LA-bound flight to New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An American Airlines flight headed from New York to Los Angeles has made an emergency landing at a New Mexico airport.
A spokesman for Albuquerque International Sunport says Flight 117 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport landed without incident at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after the smell of smoke or some sort of fumes was reported in the cabin.
Sunport spokesman Daniel Jiron says airport fire personnel checked out the plane but didn’t immediately find the source of the smell. He says there were no reports of injuries among the 169 passengers and crew.
Jiron says the plane is being thoroughly checked before it’s cleared to take off.
