ISLAMABAD - Floods in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) have so far claimed 1400 lives and left over three million people affected and stranded.

UNICEF spokesman Abdul Sami Malik was quoted as saying that 1.3 million people have been severely impacted by the floods, losing both homes and sources for earning a livelihood.

The catastrophe has been on for almost a week ago and is likely to aggravate, Malik warned.

Authorities in the NWFP are reported to be struggling to rescue flood victims, or reach aid to them.

NWFP residents have reportedly attacked trucks distributing relief items, forcing the local police to baton charge them.

Religious charities have reportedly stepped in to provide aid, piling pressure on the government to show it can take control.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Punjab is said to be the worst affected. (ANI)
