Doctors give France’s Sarkozy clean bill of health

PARIS — Doctors for French President Nicolas Sarkozy have given the 55-year-old leader a clean bill of health a year after he collapsed while jogging.

A battery of exams, including bloodwork and cardiovascular tests, all proved normal, Sarkozy’s medical service said in a statement Monday. It added that the president had requested to undergo the tests.

His collapse a year ago was seen as a wake-up call over the president’s intense, high-octane lifestyle.

Doctors at the Val de Grace military hospital in Paris kept Sarkozy overnight for observation following the July 26, 2009, incident. They diagnosed him with “lipothymic” discomfort due to overexertion and fatigue. They prescribed a few day’s rest but no further medical treatment.
