ISLAMABAD - Fundamental rights are absolute and divine which should be respected and protected by all the segments of a society, said Mangesha Kebede, the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Pakistan.

Kebede said this during the two-day Attorneys of Human Rights Workshop in Islamabad, which was organized by Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid (SHARP) in collaboration with the UNHCR.

He elaborated basic principles and concepts of human rights and shared his experiences of different cultures and communities with the audience.

He also said that respect for human rights is a fundamental right of all human beings, whether they are residing in their own country or abroad.

“For a prosperous society, respect for human rights is an essential component and society itself has to get united to get their fundamental rights,” The Daily Times quoted Kebede, as saying.

He also urged lawyers, who participated in the workshop, to fight for the cause of human rights, and provide legal assistance to refugees in their respective areas. (ANI)
