Gordon Ramsay ’served with $2m tax bill in US’
By ANISunday, August 1, 2010
LONDON - British chef Gordon Ramsay is apparently being chased for more than 2 million dollars in unpaid taxes in the US.
The 43-year-old Hell’s Kitchen star received three big bills in eight months.
His latest tax bill of 323,000 pounds took the total outstanding tax to nearly 1.3 million pounds. Ramsay has a risk of having his restaurants and assets seized and he may eventually have to dip into his personal fortune to meet the demands.
Tax officers could seize the business if they are not satisfied with repayment plans. Then if sales of assets still don’t cover the bills, Ramsay could be liable.
Ramsay suffered another loss when his Cape Town restaurant in South Africa closed.
“This relates specifically to a restaurant operation in New York which has been restructured. Conversations are in hand with US authorities to settle outstanding corporate liabilities,” News Of The World quoted a spokesman for Gordon Ramsay Holdings as saying.
The spokesman also said that these were not personal tax liabilities nor are the obligations related to Ramsay personally. All involve a firm that previously operated the New York restaurant. (ANI)
