FAA to downgrade Mexico’s air safety rating
WASHINGTON — U.S. aviation officials are downgrading Mexico’s aviation safety rating, a move that could have economic consequences for some airlines.
The action would not stop flights between the two countries, but it would prevent Mexican airlines from expanding service to the United States.
An aviation official, who asked not to be named because the decision has not yet been announced, said the Federal Aviation Administration plans to announce the decision Friday.
The decision was prompted by concerns about safety oversight by the Mexican government of its airlines.
