LENOX, Mass. — In a story July 25 about the pending cleanup of PCBs from the Housatonic River, The Associated Press reported erroneously that General Electric Co. had proposed a halt in further dredging of the Hudson River in New York after dredging at a site north of Albany had stirred up PCBs.

GE proposed that further dredging be halted if PCBs churned up by the work spread too much pollution downriver during the second phase of an ongoing cleanup.
