LONDON - Brits living near the town of Torquay, where TV comedy Fawlty Towers’ lead character Basil Fawlty’s hotel was based, have topped the UK’s bankruptcy charts.

The data compiled by insolvency advisers R3 shows that Torbay, which includes the south Devon resort of Torquay, is the no1 hotspot for going bust.

Other spots where folks live in constant fear of going broke are Plymouth, Hastings, Great Yarmouth, Cleethorpes in North East Lincs, and Whitley Bay in North Tyneside.

“Unfortunately, with public sector job cuts it’s likely to get worse,” News of the World quoted Steven Law, president of R3, as saying about the findings.

He added: “Londoners are least likely to become insolvent as there are more job opportunities there.” (ANI)
