Fuel tanks from troubled F-16 found in Colorado
DENVER — A search team has found two empty fuel tanks that were jettisoned from an F-16 jet fighter during an in-flight emergency over Colorado.
The Air Force says the tanks were found Friday about 200 yards from a farm house in Elbert County. The exact location wasn’t disclosed, but the county is about 20 miles southeast of Denver.
The jet landed safely and no injuries were reported after the pilot reported the emergency Thursday. The Air Force hasn’t revealed the nature of the trouble.
Air Force Maj. Nicole David says an Army National Guard helicopter spotted the tanks and an Air Force team was driving them back to Buckley Air Force Base in suburban Denver, where the F-16 is based.
David says the tanks didn’t cause any damage when they landed.
