Chandra Shekhar Azad remembered on his 105th birth anniversary

ALLAHABAD - Residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad city paid rich tributes to revolutionary freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 105th birth anniversary that was observed on Friday.

Scores of dignitaries paid their respects at Azad’s statue here.

The Uttar Pradesh state police presented the customary guard of honour to Azad.

Allahabad Commissioner V P Jagmohan said that events like these are important to recall the sacrifices made by the leaders of freedom era.

“For any society, its is very important to remember their golden history and India’s modern history’s hero is Chandra Shekhar Azad. We are celebrating his 105th birth anniversary and the whole city is participating in the event with utmost enthusiasm,” said V P Jagmohan.

Chandra Shekhar Sitaram Tiwari, who came to be known as Azad later was born on July 23, 1905, in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao District.

He formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and was mentor to revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Batukeshwar Dutt, and Rajguru. (ANI)
