CANBERRA - Paul Priestman, the designer of a futuristic train ‘Mercury’ in Britain has said that the future of rail travel in the country would be sexy, speedy and luxurious.

According to the website news.com.au, the Mercury will travel at 362km/h and transport travelers across Britain as part of a new high-speed rail link.

The interior of the train resembles a luxurious penthouse apartment with comfortable sofas and soft furnishings.

It also encompasses all possible entertainment modes like computers fitted with the seats, which incorporate movies, music and a games entertainment system. There will also be a storage space for folding bicycles, a bar and a double-decker observation deck.

Luxury first class section has a lounge and bar, and families can avail the facility to travel in private pods.

“We need to persuade people to travel by train to achieve a successful low-carbon economy, and to do that, train travel needs to be as exciting as air travel and as sexy as the latest car. Not only does it need to be fast, it needs to be modern, luxurious, exciting and stylish,”Priestman said.

The designs have been put forward to Britain’s Transport Secretary Phillip Hammond after he promised to build a new high speed rail network. (ANI)
