Scottish businesswoman claims high heels made her drink drive

LONDON - A Scottish businesswoman has revealed that she decided to drink and drive, as she was not able to walk quickly enough in her high heels.
Kyra Ritchie, 29, told Perth Sheriff Court that as she struggled to keep up with a group of friends because of the shoes she was wearing on a night out, she decided to turn back to change them and got behind the wheel of her car.
The court was told that Ritchie was wearing training shoes when she was stopped by the police and found to be well over twice the legal limit.
“This was just after 1am. Police were on patrol near the location when they saw the accused driving her vehicle. They spoke to her and she was under the influence of alcohol,” the Scotsman quoted fiscal depute Lucy Keane as saying.
Ritchie, of Edradynate, Aberfeldy, admitted drink driving on the C447 Strathtay to Weem road on April 30.
“Her address is fairly remote and secluded. On the evening of this particular day she and her husband had made the short journey from their home to a hotel to celebrate a friend’s birthday,” solicitor Gordon Williams, defending, said.
“In the early hours of the morning the party were making their way back. She went back to the hotel to change her shoes,” he stated.
Sheriff Brian Donald said he did not believe Ritchie had only had “a couple of drinks”. He banned her from driving for 18 months and fined her 360 pounds. (ANI)
