Sharks spotted off NJ beaches
SEASIDE PARK, N.J. — Lifeguards in three New Jersey towns told swimmers to get out of the water after receiving reports that sharks had been seen swimming close to shore.
Lifeguards at South Seaside Park Beach ordered swimmers out of the water for about two hours Thursday morning after two sharks were spotted about 30 yards offshore. Officials believe they might have been the same sharks seen the day before off nearby Seaside Park Beach.
The beach patrol chief there, Joe Gomulka, said two 5-foot sharks were spotted about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Sharks also were seen Monday near Ocean Beach on the barrier island of Toms River. Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said swimmers were asked to get out of the water for about an hour.
No one could confirm the type of sharks.
