LONDON - Noted author and former Tory politician Lord Archer has donated a million pounds to build East Anglia’s first children’s hospital.

Lady Archer, the chairman of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has accepted the cheque.

Lord Archer declined to comment on the donation, but it emerged only after his friend Jerry Hayes, the former Tory MP who attended his summer party in Cambridge over the weekend, let it slip on Twitter.

The plan is to build it on the site of Addenbrooke’s Hospital near to where the Rosie maternity hospital is located.

It is hoped that it will be possible to open the children’s hospital by 2013. (ANI)
