Indian Army Chief’s remarks on Kashmir admittance of ‘total failure’: Pak media

Islamabad, July 14 (ANI): Pakistani media has described Indian Army Chief General V K Singh’s recent statement over Kashmir violence as an ‘admission of the India’s state’s total failure’.
An opinion piece in one of country’s leading English dailies, The Nation, stated that General Singh’s remarks that bold and far-sighted political steps were urgently needed to consolidate hard-earned gains in the battle against militancy in the Valley clearly shows that he is trying to put the blame primarily on failed intelligence and the Indian state’s inability to connect to the “common man and build confidence in him”.
“The people of Kashmir do not want to live under the yoke of Indian occupation. They continue to remain committed to exercising their right of self-determination as promised to them by India in the UNSC and by UNSC resolutions,” the editorial said.
It also criticised the US for helping India to arm itself, which, according to the editorial, would have very negative impact in the region especially when the Kashmir issue lingers on.
“It is too bad the US is encouraging this arms build up which will automatically have a multiplier effect in the region as long as the core issue of Kashmir remains unresolved,” the editorial said.
Separately, an opinion piece in The Business Recorder said that General Singh’s remarks ‘reads like a black comic burlesque’.
” Indian Army Chief General V K Singh must be an enthusiast admirer of Roman legions-otherwise how could he describe deaths of thousands of Kahsmiris at the hands of security forces as gains,” the editorial said. (ANI)
