Wind turbine maker plans to hire 850 in Colorado
DENVER — Vestas Wind Systems says it will hire 850 people at two Colorado plants that manufacture wind turbine components.
Vestas said Tuesday that 750 of the jobs will be at its Brighton plant, which makes nacelles, the housings that include the generator, transformer and gearbox.
The other 100 jobs will be at Vestas’ Windsor plant, which makes blades.
Denmark-based Vestas says the hires would be made over the next 18 months. They would bring the company’s Colorado work force to about 1,850.
Vestas also has a plant in Pueblo that makes towers that support the nacelles and blades.
The jobs announced Tuesday are in addition to as many as 240 new positions announced last week for a Vestas research and development office planned in Louisville, Colo.
