Malik blames Afghan extremists for Mohmand suicide attack

LONDON - Blaming Afghan militants for last week’s deadly suicide attack in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas’ (FATA) Mohmand District, which killed more than 100 people, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has blamed NATO and Afghanistan forces of not doing enough to prevent extremists from crossing over to the country.

Malik said that he has intelligence information to prove that the attackers had crossed the border from Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan has “demanded” from both the Afghan government and NATO to “stop the cross border infiltration.”

Malik also rejected claims that militants from Pakistan were seeping into Afghanistan to fight against the coalition forces.

Meanwhile, responding to Malik’s claims NATO’s Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, described the infiltration as a “matter of concern” which has affected Afghanistan as well.

“I don’t have detailed information about this specific case but I will not rule out the possibility,” The BBC quoted Rasmussen, as saying,

“It just stresses the need for strengthened co-operation between (the NATO-led force) International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Pakistan and Afghanistan when it comes to control of the borders,” he added. (ANI)
