Swiss to make announcement in Polanski case
GENEVA — The Swiss government says it will make an announcement Monday about Roman Polanski’s extradition to the United States for a 1977 sex case.
The government says Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf will hold a news conference in the capital Bern at 2 p.m. (1200 GMT; 8 a.m. EDT) “on the matter of the Roman Polanski extradition decision.”
A spokesman for the Justice Ministry, Guido Balmer, declined Monday to confirm whether a decision has been made and what it might be.
The film director has been held in Switzerland since last September on an extradition request made by U.S. authorities.
He was allowed to move from prison to his Alpine chalet in December pending the extradition decision.
