Cowen Group names Michael Costa head of M&A
NEW YORK — Cowen Group Inc. on Monday named a former Merrill Lynch executive as its new head of mergers and acquisitions.
Michael R. Costa, a one-time managing director at Merrill Lynch, was also given the title vice chairman of investment banking. Costa spent 20 years at Merrill, focused on M&A and corporate restructuring in the media and telecom industries. He worked on deals involving Comcast, Time Warner and Clearwire, the Tribune Co. and Alltel.
Prior to joining Merrill in 1989, he was an M&A attorney at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York.
Costa will be based in New York and report to Scott Ryles, Cowen’s head of investment banking.
Cowen shares closed Monday trading down 15 cents, or 3.6 percent, at $4. The stock has traded between $1.11 and $9 in the past 52 weeks.
