Bosnian Serb leader denies Srebrenica genocide
BRATUNAC, Bosnia-Herzegovina — The Bosnian Serb leader is denying the Serb massacre of Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995 was genocide.
Milorad Dodik spoke Monday at a commemoration for Serbs killed during the war around the eastern town of Srebrenica. At a military cemetery in Bratunac he said he recognized the massacre was a crime but it cannot be qualified as genocide.
The comment came a day after Bosnia marked the 15th anniversary of the Serb killing of over 8,000 Srebrenica Muslims — labeled by the International Court of Justice an act of genocide.
Serbs are bitter because the world honors Muslim victims annually but ignores the commemoration for Serbs a day later.
The Serb government claims over 3,500 Serbs were killed in the area during the 1992-95 war, most of them soldiers.
