LUCKNOW - Activist of Samajwadi Party took out a mock funeral procession to protest spiraling inflation and the recent fuel price hike in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad city. arty workers said the funeral procession marked the failure of the Congress led UPA government to curb inflation and control the prices of essential commodities.

“By taking out this funeral procession we have sent a warning to the federal government that if the price rise is not checked at the earliest then we will be forced to resort to a highly charged agitation and the federal government will have to take the blame for it,” said Mithilesh Bharti, a SP party worker.

Locals from the nearby areas also joined the procession and shouted anti-government slogans.

The fuel price index went up by 18.02 percent during the period, compared with the previous week’s 12.90 percent. The index will see another jump in its next reading, with the government having raised fuel prices from June 26. (ANI)
