Pak troops kill 38 Taliban in South Waziristan

ISLAMABAD - At least 32 Taliban militants have been killed as fierce fighting erupted between Pakistani security forces and extremists in South Waziristan breaking months long pause in violence in the region.

Officials said over 35 troops also sustained injuries in the latest ambush which took place at various Mehud tribe dominated places in the troubled tribal region like Karwan Manza, Pash Ziarat and Dwa Toi.

According to reports, militants attacked a check-post in Dwa Toi area on Saturday injuring 18 security men.

Security personnel backed by helicopter gunships retaliated killing 14 militants, The Dawn reports.

Another check-post in Karwan Manza was also attacked in which three security personnel were killed.

The counter offensive launched by troops left 12 militants killed, and 17 security personnel injured.

Separately, six militants and three security personnel were killed in a gun battle after extremists ambushed a military convoy in Pash Ziarat area. (ANI)
