LONDON - Earl Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, has fetched a whopping 21 million pounds after an auction of family treasures.
The items from Althorp, the ancestral home of the late Princess and her brother, were sold at auction at Christie’s in London.
One of the main lots, a 17th Century portrait by German artist Sir Peter Paul Rubens called ‘A Commander Being Armed For Battle’, sold for more than 9million dollars.
A second painting, ‘King David’, by 17th Century Italian artist Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, fetched 5,193,250 pounds, reports the Daily Star.
Other lesser lots sold included butler’s trays, copper jelly moulds and textiles.
These and other items attracted Internet bids from as far afield as Australia, China and Kazakhstan.
A spokesman for the 14,000-acre estate in Northamptonshire said it would fund a 10million pounds restoration project. (ANI)
