Overflowing rivulet claims three lives in Punjab

CHANDIGARH - Overflowing rivulet claimed the lives of three innocent children of Rani Majra village here on Thursday.

The victims Sanjay, Deepak and Navneet, who were playing in the seasonal rivulet near the village that was overflowing due to heavy rains got stuck in the rivulet and drowned.

The President of the Village Council briefed the media about the whole mishap.

“The kids used to play near that rivulet and we were aware about it, but we were not expecting that they would enter inside the water. We were not aware of the mishap. We got this information around 8-9 pm when kids didn’t come back home,” said Surjit Kaur, Surpanch (President of Village Council), Rani Majra Village.

“After searching in the nearby areas, we found their clothes at the bank of the rivulet. We informed the police station about it and police officials also tried for the missing kids and finally they called a swimmer who got the dead bodies of the missing children from Ropar area,” he added.

The police officials handed over the bodies of the missing kids to their families.

“In the main flood affected area, the curious kids went to witness the situation and unfortunately they drowned. They couldn’t find their way out,” observed Didar Singh, Assistant Sub Inspector, Punjab police. (ANI)
