AHMEDABAD - Hundreds of Muslims welcomed the 133rd Rathyatra or, the Chariot procession of Lord Jagannath here today.

In a gesture intended to strengthen communal amity, a group of Muslims presented a memento of a silver chariot of Lord Jagannath on Wednesday to its temple priest here on Wednesday.

“Every year, on behalf of the Muslim community, this is done to welcome the Lord (Jagannath). This procession is taken out from the area of the Muslim community. We come here every year from the Muslim community to create an environment of harmony and we pray that this procession is carried out successfully. We just pray for this,” said Raud Shaikh, Muslim community leader.

The Muslims took out a procession and celebrated all the way.

“Talk about humans, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Parsis, everyone comes here. Everyone is our brother. One should live in harmony, and should increase the effectiveness of the festival. We all are brothers,” said Ram Swaroop Das, priest of Jagannath temple. (ANI)
