Officer shot in Pa. city that declared emergency
CHESTER, Pa. — A police officer has been wounded and a suspect has been killed amid gunfire in a Pennsylvania city that declared a state of emergency last week following a surge of violence. Two other people have been wounded.
Officers were called Tuesday afternoon to a reported burglary in progress in Chester, a once-mighty manufacturing center halfway between Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del. Officers heard gunfire and saw a male leaving through a window. An officer preparing to confront him was shot in the arm and suffered an injury not considered life-threatening.
Other officers confronted two other people leaving the building. Authorities say they fired when the suspects pointed guns at them.
One suspect was killed. The other was wounded.
A third person is believed to have been shot and wounded by one of the other suspects.
