KABUL - Afghanistan has dismissed media reports that President Hamid Karzai had secretly met a senior leader of Taliban outfit fighting Afghan and NATO troops.
“There has not been any visit by any senior member of Taliban, (Sirajuddin) Haqqani group and anybody else,” Xinhua news agency quoted Waheed Omar, Karzai’s chief spokesman, as saying.
“We strongly condemn such baseless reports that are part of propaganda against Afghanistan government,” he added.
Omar’s comments come in the wake of media reports that Karzai met Taliban commander Sirajuddin along with Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) chief General Ahmad Shuja Pasha.
He described such reports as part of a campaign to undermine the peace process in his country. (ANI)
