KABUL - NATO troops have killed a top Afghan Taliban commander in Puli Alam District of the Logar province, after he fired at the allied forces while trying to flee disguised as a women.

According to reports, acting on intelligence inputs troops tracked Ghulam Sakhi in a compound late Friday night. They then used a loudspeaker asking women and children to vacate the building.

“As they were exiting, Sakhi came out with the group disguised in women’s attire and pulled out a pistol and a grenade and shot at the security force,” Express.co.uk quoted a statement of the allied forces, as saying.

“When Afghan and coalition forces shot him, he dropped the grenade and it detonated, wounding a woman and two children,” the statement added.

Sakhi was involved in roadside bombings and ambushes across the province, and he was also responsible for the kidnapping and murder of an Afghan government intelligence chief.

In a separate incident, a US serviceman was killed in a roadside bomb blast in South Afghanistan bringing the total number on international troops killed in June to 85, which includes at least 51 Americans.

The month of June has proved to be the deadliest so far for the allied forces in the nine year old ‘war on terror’.

A small bomb blast was also reported from Kabul in an area which houses several foreign embassies and government offices. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Kabul Police’s criminal investigations chief Abdul Ghafar Sayedzada said the explosion was caused by a small bomb placed on the engine of a government vehicle.

The driver of the car, used by the Afghan National Army, has been arrested and taken for interrogation. (ANI)
