CANBERRA - A poll taken in the aftermath of Kevin Rudd’s dismissal, predicts that Julia Gillard will take Labor to victory in an early election with a stunning return to fortune for the Federal Government.

The exclusive Galaxy opinion survey revealed that Labor party’s primary vote surged from 37 per cent to 41 per cent, lifting it back into a winnable position as voters sent a loud and clear message that Rudd had been the problem.

58 per cent people rated Gillard as preferred Prime Minister while only 32 per cent voted in favour of opposition leader Tony Abbott.

Labor officials also revealed the party is likely to shift its campaign from the big-ticket policy agenda, which failed for Rudd, to an aggressive localised campaign to win back marginal seats in New South Wales and Queensland.

The party’s strategist and campaigner Bruce Hawker agreed that an early election could be possible if Gillard’s new leadership got off to a reasonable start, but it would depend on how the voters get connected to her.

“I think they will wait and see how she travels but if she gets into a healthy position quickly, you would want to move quickly to an election,” he said. (ANI)
