BANKURA - Suspected Maoists torched a house killing an 80-year-old woman and her elderly daughter in Baghdubi village in West Bengal’s Bankura district on Friday.

According to villagers, the Maoists had come to target CPI-M leader Nabin Hembram, who was on their hit list, and ended up burning the house.

Their neighbours immediately informed Nabin Hembrum, who then lodged a complaint alleging that Maoists along with Trinamool Congress and Jharkhand Party cadres have torched his house killing his mother and sister.

“Not only Maoist did this. Trinamool Congress and Jharkhand party also responsible for this incident,” said Gobin Hembrem, the brother of Nabin.

The Maoists had been hunting for Nabin since the CRPF shot dead two squad members on December 15, 2006.

The Maoists had shot dead his younger brother Kalipada Hembram in December 2009, following which the family had shifted to Khatra town.

Meanwhile, suspected Maoists killed a villager in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

The Maoists abducted the victim, Tathi Bodma, on June 14 and his body was recovered near Pamulvaya village on Friday. (ANI)
